FISHBONES RESTAURANT

Well this is a little restaurant slightly of the beaten track down at Haines City and possibly overlooked and not well known amongst many tourists.

We first discovered it at the Champions Gate Gator fest in May last year. We picked up a menu from the stall but it took us almost 7 months to get there and that was by accident really. We went down early evening Xmas Eve, actually heading to another restaurant but we walked out as it as so busy even with a reservation and we thought, hey why not give Fishbones a try its nearby!

Well it is certainly is nothing to write home décor wise and it would be easy to turn on your heels and leave as it is quite ugly inside but if you can forgive the décor and give it a try you will have an enjoyable, tasty and reasonably priced meal.

The prices are such unbelievably good value. The main meals are served with soup of the day or a small house salad to start with. I choose the house salad with blue cheese dressing – there was a choice and my companions all choose the soup of the day, Onion that particular night, no complaints so far!

Then came the main course options. I decided to have the blackened swordfish with loaded baked potato and my companions chose steak cooked medium and shrimp on skewers. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection and looked really delicious as dd the veg and fries that was served with it. My fish was wonderful too, it was firm and meaty and really flavorsome. Only one of the party had room for desert and this was Key Lime Pie and put it this way it was enough to feed four and he was the colour of the pie by the time he was finished…a button or two was unfastened that night!

The bill was well under $90 for 4 including cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks.

The staff are locals and really really friendly too. Don’t bother to dress up, we did as it was Xmas Eve and a personal choice that night but lots of the diners were in shorts etc. Reservations are not normally needed as it is a big place and on the occasions we have been back since we have just walked in and sat down even the following week on New Years Eve.
