So you have done the theme parks and fancy a break, then why not give the Space coast a try. maybe you could just drive there for a long day trip or even stay overnight giving you that little bit longer to enjoy all that it has to offer….
Just 35 miles east of Orlando, you'll find 72 miles of pristine Atlantic beaches known as Florida's Space Coast. Along this impressive stretch of coastline, unspoiled nature reserves exist in perfect harmony with the space-age attractions of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Port Canaveral and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.
250sq miles of wildlife refuges one of which is The Merritt island national wildlife refuge which is an awesome place to visit. Over 500 species of wildlife inhabit this refuge with 15 being threatened or endangered. There are 10 active bald eagles nests and numerous Osprey nests. Up to 400 Manatee, along with 4 hiking trails, viewing platforms, boating and canoeing it is defiantly worth visit.
Quaint towns such as Cocoa are also worth seeing. Widely known as the surfing capitol of the east coast and home to several surfing champions.
There is also the famous Cocoa beach pier which is a historical landmark, stretching some 840 feel over the Atlantic Ocean and features a wide array of restaurants, boutiques and gift shops. Not to mention the Six miles long, cocoa beach, which is located on a barrier island nestled between the great Atlantic Ocean and the banana river lagoon.
Then you have Port Canaveral which is the busiest cruise port in America and where you would join your ship if you were to take one of the wonderful cruises on offer.
Of course you also have the fantastic Kennedy Space Center. The only place on earth where you can tour launch areas, meet an astronaut, see giant rockets, train in space flight simulators and maybe if you are really lucky you may even get to view a launch.
Established as NASA's Launch Operations Center on July 1, 1962, the center was renamed in honor of the nation's 35th president following his death.
The tropical climate and exotic landscapes offer endless ways to enjoy recreational and leisure time and there really is something for everyone and I am sure that you will enjoy every minute.
