Shopping in West Palm Beach
West Palm Beach is a delightful place to visit, with its impeccably maintained avenues, soaring palm tree lined boulevards, sophisticated museums and art galleries, multi-million dollar homes and glorious sandy beaches. Situated about 60 miles north of Miami, it is worth a visit if you have time. For those who enjoy shopping it has some great venues. We always enjoy visiting American malls, as each one is different and unique, usually built on a much grander scale than those found in the UK, and offering a comfortable and elegant shopping experience
One of West Palm Beach’s biggest shopping centres is City Place, at South Rosemary Avenue, a $550 million shopping, entertainment and residential complex, in downtown West Palm Beach. It is very different from most shopping centres, as it is in the open air. It has 600, 000 sq ft of retail space, 20 restaurants, and an arts centre located in a restored 1926 church. It is simply stunning, with four fountains, including a $3. 5 million show fountain, which offers spectacular displays every half hour. These displays are choreographed, and include dancing lights, water and sound. However, this wonderful CityPlace Fountain is elegant and peaceful in between times. With over 36, 000 gallons of water and 186 jets, including 94 arching jets, as well as over 190 lights it is a magical experience to watch this beautiful fountain, especially at night. There is even a 20 screen Movico cinema, should you wish to catch a movie before you leave.
It really is unique, and has the look and feel of an Italian town. Due to the fact that there are 600 private residences close by it is full of life and vibrancy. The buildings are stunning and the whole is beautifully laid out. You can easily spend a few hours here exploring the various streets, or maybe sitting at a sidewalk café and watching the world go by.
Palm Beach Mall, which is even bigger at 1. 4 million sq ft, can be found at Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard. Here you will find Sears, Dillards, Macy’s and JC Penney, as well as 125 stores. . It has recently been renovated and now has new skylights which have increased the amount of natural light, vaulted ceilings, new interior landscaping and comfortable seating areas. There is a 600 seat Seaside Cafes Food Court which has also been completely transformed, and includes Subway, Sbarro, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels and Aladdin Mediterranean Grill.
However, if you want something a little different then the South Dixie Antique Row has 45 antique shops offering a variety of 17th-20th century antiques.
