Rainforest Cafe

Florida Guide > Dining

If you are looking for somewhere special to celebrate a family birthday or you just like fabulously creative scenery while you eat good food then the Rainforest Café is for you, in either Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney. We’ve been to both and thought they were both great

The experience starts at the bar if you fancy a cocktail or lemonade. The seats are designed to look like the hind legs of animals, from antelope to zebra and many other animals in between. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lively and vibrant. As you are guided to your seat your waiter takes you past a colourful array of tropical fish swimming in huge aquariums. My children could have stayed for hours watching the fish zip in and out of the coral but this was only a small part of the experience. We were seated near a herd of elephants with a large male looking down on his territory.

All around the restaurant, jungle animals adorn the walls, ceilings and trees. The trees are spectacular with trailing vines and vivid colours. All of a sudden the lights darken and the sounds of the jungle sweep through the restaurant. The monkeys and gorillas are whooping and the crickets chirp to the parrots who returned their calls from high up in the tree tops. The sound of rain and thunder mount to a crescendo of animal, bird and insect noises and then all is quiet in the jungle again, until the next time!

The menu is varied and is sure to entice the pickiest eater. From burgers and chicken to pizza and salad there really is something for everyone. The deserts are especially good and the Volcano is a must to finish off any meal. My children absolutely love this place, but as you can tell by my review we loved it here too and it’s definitely on our list of must do’s for our next visit.

The restaurant also has a gift store attached, where you can buy an assortment of Rainforest goodies.

As if the restaurant wasn’t enough, I also have a little secret tip for Animal Kingdom. After you have been through the security check for your bags and before you enter the park at the turnstiles, go left and into The Rainforest Café. You can make your reservations for lunch if you haven’t already as they do get busy and then go out the back way into Animal Kingdom. This cuts out a lot of queuing.
