Houlihans

We recently went here for the third time and feel we must share our very enjoyable experience with you all.

Houlihans is positioned on the south side of the 192, at 8520 Iris Bronson Highway, telephone number 407 809 0900. It is situated opposite Orange Lake Country Club. You can ring and book ahead, something that many restaurants do not allow.

We arrived about 8. 30 pm after having had a drink before we arrived and were immediately shown to our table. This was pleasantly tucked away in an alcove giving a good view of the rest of the restaurant. Alcoves are all round the outside with an open area for dining in the middle. They also have a reasonable sized seating area at the bar. Meals can also be taken outside, where they do have heaters available in the winter.

Menus were presented and we took our time choosing from the extensive menu. A bottle of Pinot Grigot was chosen and we started to enjoy this while making our choices. It was decided that the four of us four of us would opt for two starters to be shared amongst all of us. Stuffed mushrooms was one and the other was deep fried calamari, a particular favourite of Paul, one of the party. These arrived within ten minutes and well it was just as well we had chosen only two, there were seven large mushrooms stuffed with garlic cream cheese topped with breadcrumbs, enough for a whole course, let alone a starter. Then don't forget the calamari, a large tub of this also arrived and I must say for one who does not normally like this I found it delicious.

After we had finished these we decided a second bottle of wine was called for before the main course arrived and I have to say this was absolutely gorgeous. I love salmon at the best of time, but this was out of this world. A 8 oz fillet of salmon, mustard encrusted with dijon flavoured breadcrumbs served over baby new potatoes, fried onions, bacon and spinach in a sherry-honey buerre blanc. This was enjoyed by three of us. We all struggled to finish. The fourth member of the party, Brian my husband was the odd one out and he enjoyed Chicken Parmesan. Most main courses are served with a choice of salad or bowl of soup. Something we all decided not to have.

Needless to say after all this we had no room for a sweet and will have to return and enjoy another day.

They also do all you can eat breakfasts for $4. 99, but that's a story for another day.
