Fulton's Crab House

If it is great seafood and wonderful ambiance you are looking for, look no further than Fulton’s Crab House; the old paddle steamer moored up in the heart of Downtown Disney. If you are a regular visitor to Disney you have probably walked past it many times. Maybe you have wondered if it is worth a visit. If you are looking for an extra special seafood experience it certainly is.

As you can guess from the name, Fulton’s Crab House specialises in seafood. Much of it is flown in daily, so aside from eating on the trawler or right at the side of the sea this is about as fresh as you can get. As with all good restaurants, don’t be afraid to ask the staff what’s fresh in today. Any chef worth their salt should delight in telling you of their efforts to source the best possible ingredients.

When deciding what to eat the big decision is whether to try the fish or the seafood. The fish is always excellent but in my opinion it is in the seafood department where Fulton’s truly excels. The menu usually includes such delights as lobsters (or tails), crab cakes, and of course a selection of crabs’ legs and claws. For a truly magnificent dining experience try starting with the Cold Seafood Platter and then go the full tamale with the Alaskan King Crab Claws. It really is seafood at its best. If you are starting with a real appetite sneak in a bowl of New England Clam Chowder too, but be sure to save room for desert.

If you aren’t driving, the perfect accompaniment to any seafood is a chilled glass or two of nice white wine. Not sure which wine to choose? Then have a chat with the sommelier. Tell them what you are planning to eat and they will recommend a few wines that will compliment rather than overpower the subtle flavours of your chosen dishes. For something extra special or that perfect romantic dinner for two a bottle of champagne is surely the way to go.

A quick thought on budgets. Fulton’s really isn’t the place to go if you want to work to a strict dining budget. To eat at a restaurant like Fulton’s but then spend the evening studying prices isn’t going to give you the dining experience that such a place is capable of. You don’t need to go completely OTT on each visit, but similarly you don’t want to constrain yourself to just the tiniest fraction of what Fulton’s has to offer.

If you have eaten at Charley’s Steak House and have been looking for the seafood equivalent, you need look no further. Fulton’s Crab House at Downtown Disney is the place.

As with all Disney restaurants, Fulton’s is busy all year round. If you don’t mind a wait, maybe with a cocktail or two, it is possible to turn up on spec but at busy times of the year reservations are highly recommended, if not essential.
