Carrabba’s – Our Favourite Italian Restaurant

We were introduced to Carrabba’s on our first visit to Orlando when we were buying our villa and we have returned there at least once each visit since then. We generally go to the one on the 192 just west of the Formosa Gardens area. It is popular so to save a long wait we generally phone ahead to get our names on the list. You can’t actually book a table for a particular time but we often get in within 5 or 10 minutes doing this.

All the restaurants seem to have a speciality bread and in Carrabba’s their ciabbatta type bread comes with a very herby olive oil dip. This is delicious!

The starters are typically Italian through minestrone soup and salads to calamari, mussels, zucchini and crab cakes as well as specials for your particular day.

For your main courses you can choose food from the wood-burning grill and this can be chicken, sea food or steak. They all come with a choice of soup or salad and a choice of potatoes, pasta or vegetables. My particular favourite is the Spiedino Di Mare, which is shrimp and sea scallops coated with Italian breadcrumbs, grilled and topped with lemon butter sauce. The scallops are consistently large and juicy and grilled to perfection. There are also a number of pasta specialities again with choices of sauce and chicken shrimp or vegetarian. The family classics are another option and these include lasagne, ravioli, spaghetti, linguine pescatore, chicken and veal dishes. However no Italian menu w would be complete without their Pizzas. The ones at Carrabba’s are particularly fine and are prepared by hand daily and baked in the wood-burning brick oven. They have really thin crisp bases and come with a range of toppings or you can create your own from the full range of toppings.

I’m afraid that I can’t really comment on the desserts as so far I haven’t managed to get that far, however, the ones I have seen do look suitably sinful!

Carrabba’s is a great choice if you have any vegetarians in your part as they have a number of choices for both starters and main courses.

Carrabba’s also offers a take out service and will offer starters, entrées and desserts in portions that will serve 8 – 12 people.

It opens at 4 pm each day and has a happy hour until 7pm which is great if you prefer to eat early. There is also a children’s menu.
