  4. I booked a car in Canada with Dollar but on the Voucher it says Thrifty is the Supplier. Why?

Which company do you use for car hire?

  • We use Dollar, Thrifty, Budget and Alamo. Which one you choose is up to you.

What are the main differences between the various suppliers?

  • We offer several suppliers to give you the greatest choice possible. We do not recommend any one supplier more than another. We only deal with the most reputable suppliers in the USA. In some regions one supplier maybe cheaper than another. In other regions a different supplier may be cheaper.

Here are some general differences that you can take in to account when selecting your supplier:

On our Silver Inclusive option, Dollar, Alamo and Budget allow 2 drivers. Thrifty allow 1 driver.

On our Gold Inclusive option, Dollar and Thrifty allow unlimited drivers. Alamo and Budget allow up to 4 drivers.

On our Silver Inclusive Option, Dollar, Thrifty, Alamo and U-Save provide car with a full tank and you must return empty and pay the supplier for a tank of fuel (at a higher cost than the pump price). With Budget, collect with a full tank and return full (so no need to pay Budget for a tank of fuel).

On the Gold option, all suppliers provide the car with a full tank and you take back empty at the end. You then do NOT pay the supplier for the tank since this is included in the rental price.

With Dollar we can add your Dollar Express ID to your voucher so you can avoid the queues when collecting your car. Budget provide an Fast Track service in several locations to avoid any queues.

On collection of the car, Alamo generally allow you to choose the car you like the look of (from the category booked) from the parking lot. The other suppliers give you a car of their choice.

Dollar, Alamo, Thrifty and Budget have a minimum age of 21, with a local surcharge of between $20 - $25 per day per driver age 21-24. Alamo and Budget have a Young Drivers Package (YDP) to save young drivers a lot of money on the usual surcharge when collecting the car.

Why have you requested driving license and other details from me?

  • If you book Budget car hire through us, and select to collect from Sanford and you collection time is near or after the depot closing time, we will request extra information from you. Budget and Avis are both part of the same company. If the Budget desk is closed for the collection time booked, you will need to go to the Avis desk (next to Budget) to collect your car. You will still receive a Budget car, but it will be parked in the Avis car parking bays. Avis require the following additional information about the lead driver, which also leads to faster processing times on collection:

    • Driving License Number
    • Home Address
    • Date of Birth

You will be contacted by us in advance if this information is required.

I booked a car in Canada with Dollar but on the Voucher it says Thrifty is the Supplier. Why?

  • Dollar and Thrifty are part of the same company know as Dollar / Thrifty Automotive Group, or DTAG for short.

In the USA they go under the Dollar name, but in Canada they go under the Thrifty name.
