Hire Options and Insurances

Our car hire includes items such as insurance, taxes and surcharges with the exception of Personal Insurance which should already be included in your own travel insurance. This means there are no extras to pay when you pick up the car (other than underage charges, and a tank of fuel if on the Silver Inclusive option with Dollar, Alamo or U-Save) *

* Note: Bookings collecting from California locations only, there is a "California Tourism Tax" levied on collection of the car. This is a small fee amounting to 2.5% of the rental cost of the car. We hope in future this will be built-in to the rates.

We offer two fully inclusive packages. Note, there are some slight differences for Prestige Cars and Canadian bookings, but any differences are highlighted on the appropriate booking pages for these.

For USA Bookings

Silver Inclusive
  • Rental with unlimited mileage
  • Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) / Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - This covers damage to the car
  • Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) up to $1M cover - This covers damage and injuries to 3rd Parties
  • Uninsured / Under-insured Motorist Protection (UMP) - This covers the eventuality that an uninsured driver is involved in an incident with you.
  • All taxes and airport fees
  • 2 Drivers (Dollar, U-Save, Budget), 1 Driver (Alamo)
  • Dollar / Alamo / U-Save ~ You pay for a tank of fuel on arrival. The tank will be full on collection and you return empty. See note below for important information on fuel charges.
  • Budget ~ Collect car with a full tank and return full
Gold Inclusive
  • Rental with unlimited mileage
  • Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) / Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - This covers damage to the car
  • Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) up to $1M cover - This covers damage and injuries to 3rd Parties
  • Uninsured / Under-insured Motorist Protection (UMP) - This covers the eventuality that an uninsured driver is involved in an incident with you.
  • All taxes and airport fees

  • Unlimited Drivers with Dollar, U-Save and Budget
  • Up to a total of 4 drivers with Alamo
  • Initial tank of gas included in price. The tank will be full on collection and you return empty. **

Note, Alamo Gold Option, rentals collecting from Seattle and San Francisco Downtown only, do not include the free tank of fuel. All other locations on the Gold option include free tank of fuel.

All our car hire is fully inclusive - you have nothing to pay on arrival (except for the tank of gas for the Silver Inclusive except with Budget). * See Note above relating to Bookings collecting from California only.

Note: On the Silver Option, what is the approx cost of a tank of fuel?

  • This does not apply to Budget rental. This can vary depending on the size of car, and the current national average cost of fuel on the day. In general the rental companies will charge a lot more for the tank of fuel compared to if you were to fill up at a gas station yourself (likely to be around double, or more). The number of gallons charged is based on the manufacturers stated tank size. As a general rule, we recommend you book the Gold option if you are to be renting for less than 3 weeks in a larger vehicle (2 weeks in a smaller vehicle), even if you do not need the additional drivers. Although the Gold option is a higher up-front cost than the Silver, you will normally save overall by not having to pay the rental company for the tank of fuel.

 

The information below applies to bookings made though many other rental companies or most fly-drive packages (we include all the fees listed below in our price)

The following are extras you are likely to have to pay on arrival if booking through other companies:

CDW / LDW Insurance $14-$20 per day
SLI Insurance approx $10 per day
UMP Insurance approx $10 per day
State and local taxes 15-16% of total cost
Airport user fee 4-10% of total cost
Homeland Security Fee Varies
Additional driver fees approx $7 per driver per day

 

This can have a substantial effect on the cost of your car hire, meaning you can be paying up to £300 to £500 extra on arrival for a 14 night stay! If you book our fully inclusive car hire these additional expenses are automatically included and you will be required to pay nothing extra on arrival.
